About
UPC Label Generator

A free, focused tool for printing barcode labels from the UPC numbers you already own.

UPC Label Generator (upclabelgenerator.com) is a free, browser-based tool from Glenwhisper Limited that turns existing 12-digit UPC-A numbers into print-ready barcode labels for Avery-style sheets and thermal rolls, with bulk spreadsheet import and check-digit validation. It does not issue, sell or look up UPC numbers.

Who runs it

UPC Label Generator is built and run by Glenwhisper Limited, a small team that makes simple, focused web tools. We aim for tools that do one job well, work without an account and explain themselves in plain words.

We read every message sent through the contact form, and we use what sellers tell us to decide what to build next, from new label sizes to clearer error messages.

Why it exists

Getting a UPC number is the easy part. Turning it into a label that fits your sheets or thermal rolls, prints at the right size and scans first time is where people get stuck: a barcode image that's too small, bars stretched to fill a label, or a spreadsheet that quietly dropped a leading zero.

We wanted a tool that handles those details for you, shows you what it is doing, and gets you to a print-ready file without asking you to sign up first.

How labels are made

The same label engine runs every tool on the site.

  • Made in your browser

Checking numbers, reading spreadsheets and building the PDF all happen on your device. Your UPCs and product names are not uploaded. Our privacy policy explains the details.

  • Sized to the GS1 rules

The narrowest UPC-A bar is 0.33 mm wide at 100% size, and the barcode can range from 80% to 200%. We keep a blank margin (quiet zone) 9 times that width on each side, and we never stretch bars to fill a label.

  • Preview and file match

The preview you see and the PDF you download are drawn from the same layout, measured in millimeters, so what you check is what prints.

  • Tested by decoding

The label engine is checked by automated tests that render labels at 300 dpi and read them back with an open-source barcode reader. A software read is not a print test, so we still recommend a test scan.

Label sheet and roll sizes come from the measurements their makers publish. We mark a stock as print-tested only after we measure a real print and scan it, so for now please print one test page on plain paper first. How to print a test page.

What we don't do

Being clear about the limits matters as much as the features.

  • We don't issue or sell UPC numbers. In the US, company prefixes and single numbers come from GS1 US. How to get a UPC explains the options.
  • We're not affiliated with GS1, Amazon or any retailer. We follow GS1’s published sizing rules, but they do not endorse or review this site.
  • We don't look up products. There is no product database here. We don’t check who owns a number, and “Number format looks valid” only means the digits and check digit are correct.
  • We don't change your numbers. If a number looks wrong, the tool explains why. It only changes a number when you click to accept a suggestion.

How we write our guides

  • Primary sources first. Sizing rules come from GS1 documents, Amazon rules from Amazon's own help pages, and label sizes from the manufacturers' templates.
  • Sources are linked. Where a guide states a fact, it links to where the fact comes from.
  • Prices and rules are dated. Anything that changes, such as GS1 fees or marketplace requirements, carries a "last checked" date.
  • No paid placements. We don't accept payment to mention or rank products.
  • Corrections are welcome. If something is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
